Questions & Answers to the FCYSC traveling programQuestion – What is traveling?
Answer – The traveling program is designed for the player that is ready to take his soccer adventure a step further than the in house program. Coaches are preparing the player to become a part of a middle school team where the player must learn to play positions on the field and learn the more advanced soccer rules – example - offside’s to say just one. Players are taught beyond the basics of footwork and ball handling. They are taught to work as a team. This brings all the aspects of soccer together.
Question – Does my child have to be a great player to become a part of a travel team?
Answer – Absolutely not. Our coaches will work with all the players as long as the dedication is there with the player. Most anyone can be taught as long as the child is willing to learn.
Question - How much practicing do the travel teams do?
Answer – The travel teams practice twice a week for 1-1/2hrs at Menarcheck field (where Saturday soccer is held)
Question – How old does my child have to be?
Answer – We offer a wide variety of age groups. In the fall season he usually offer teams from as young as U10 – U14. In the spring we can have teams ranging from U10 – U19.
Question – What does the age groups mean?
Answer - U14 – child must be less than 14 years old by January 1.
U12- child must be under the age of 12 by January 1.
U10 – child must be under the age of 10 by January 1.
Question - How much traveling is involved with the travel program?
Answer – The travel season lasts for 8-10 weeks. PA West tries to split the home games and away games. The away games are played with in the greater Pittsburgh area and Morgantown. Driving travel times are no more than 1hr – 1-1/2hrs away, most around the 1hr mark.
Question - How much more money is involved as compared to the in-house program?
Answer – The travel program costs $75/player. An additional fee of $60 is for the uniform which includes club uniform (2 shirts, 1 pair of shorts, 1 pair socks)
Question - What will my child get out of traveling that he can’t get out of the in-house program?
Answer – The player will get the experience of playing in different locations around the area. They will also play on a bigger field more of the true “soccer” game. They get to be on a team that will usually stay together through the progression of the age groups. They are taught that it is a team effort and not an individual effort in winning or losing a game. All the skills of soccer are put to use. This is the real thing? It will prepare those wanting to go on in their career of soccer, such as middle school and beyond.
